QUOTE
The intersection of alchemy and biology is just further evidence that science does not advance by simply wiping the slate clean and starting completely from scratch. Some of the most dramatic revolutions were born within systems of thought that today seem hopelessly backwards. I wonder how twenty-ninth cenutry historians will look back at our own revolutions today. Who will be cast aside as the new alchemists?

QUOTE
He [Lawrence Principe of Johns Hopkins University] believes that most alchemists were respectable seekers after knowledge and that they were working with well constructed (if ultimately misguided) theories. The reputation of the alchemists, he reckons, was deliberately undermined by gentleman amateurs who were trying to give the emerging science of chemistry the social respectability it needed to sit at the academic high table.

The work of Dr Principe, though, also serves as a useful reminder to modern scientists that even the most cherished theories need to be treated with constant scepticism. This is because, as the alchemists found out, it can be all too easy to see in your results what you want to see, rather than what is actually there.

Conspirationismul de cotlon internautic e deja in mainstream.

Initiativa Sense about Science este excelenta si deja are ceva vechime si materiale foarte atractive pentru demascarea anumitor teme pseudostiintifice uzuale.

Exemple:
I've got nothing to lose by trying it - Weighing up claims about cures and treatments for long-term conditions - pdf
Making Sense of Statistics - pdf
Food Aditives
Making Sense of GM: What is the genetic modification of plants and why are scientists doing it?
